I wonder if they’ll do something you never, ever see in these movies, and show that the dinosaurs on Skull Island (if any) have actually kept evolving over the eons? So that now they have all-new species of them to face?

That seems to be, this critter is the one that everyone is afraid of and is not your typical dinosaur.

Ralph: [from trailer] Kong’s God on the island but the devils live below us.

Captain James Conrad: What are they called?

Ralph: I call them Skull Crawlers.

    Captain James Conrad: Why?

Ralph: I never said that name out loud before, it sounds stupid now that I think about it. You just call them whatever you want.

I like that idea. Most stories and films that have modern dinosaurs have them living in an isolated place with ideal dinosaur conditions, lots of food, no direct competition for the same niche, etc, so no pressure to evolve.

Easy to fit your idea if say everything was hunky dory for Dinos up to say 5 million years ago and then Kong’s ancestors and other mammals started to arrive and put on the pressure to evolve or die.
